I’m head over 5-inch heels for Omaha Fashion Week.
It’s a big deal, you know. (No, I don’t think you do.) I mean, it’s become such a spectacle that celebrity stylists, national magazines and fashion institutes are reading The World-Herald’s coverage.
Rumor has it that both Kansas City and Chicago invest thousands of dollars in their Fashion Weeks to compete with the Big O. Imagine that. We outshine every other catwalk in the Midwest.
It’s truly a compliment to Nick and Brook Hudson who produce the show each year.
I love attending fashion festivities — from children’s wear to avant garde — through out the week. But my absolute favorite evening is the grand finale runway show.
It’s become quite a spectacle, a night when manicured toes, mermaid-style gowns and bow times are a must. A night when the spectators look just as marvelous as the leggy models strutting down the platform stage.
Late-night revelers pack downtown streets to watch the city’s most talented designers showcase the garments they’ve spent months creating. The night is all about glitz and glam. VIP spectators walk the red-carpet entry, are photographed paparazzi-style and then ushered to their seats.
Words don’t do it justice. So I’ve asked three local fashion photographers to share images of Fashion Week events from behind their lens. As always, I was completely blown away by their showcase.
