It’s hard to believe another Omaha Fashion Week has arrived.
The fall showcase of children’s wear, evening wear, couture and ready-to-wear work of talented designers in our city officially gets under way Monday.
To give you a sneak peek to it, we’ve asked Hollie Hanash of Ruffled Runway about her upcoming children’s line.
Here’s what she had to say:
1. What inspired the collection?
This collection “Modern Wednesday” was born from my client base that wanted more ready to wear pieces, instead of just a selecting from a few elaborate party dresses.
I wanted to create a collection that felt more upscale, but yet still simplistic enough to wear any day, even on a Wednesday.
2. Why did you select those hues and patterns?
When I first began the collection concept, I knew that I wanted to step outside of my pink and purple sparkly fabric covered box. I wanted Modern Wednesday to have a slightly retro vibe, so I was immediately drawn to the thought of orange and yellow. After an extensive search, I found several Moda prints that were whimsical and retro at the same time. And so began my sewing marathon.
I will admit, that I did not love the color palate at first, and I was tempted to throw it all away and start over, but seeing in on live models, makes a huge difference.
3. I hear this year you’re creating a mother-daughter collection.
I am so excited about this new venture of the Mother/daughter pieces. I can’t actually take 100 percent credit for the idea. I heard a few people ask in jest, if I would make a piece in an adult size, after my last Omaha Fashion Week show. Then I knew immediately that I would test the waters and try something new.
This was my first attempt at women’s wear, so accommodating for curves was a challenge. And I was really set on the idea of using “real moms” on the runway, not stick thin teenage models. I didn’t want the pieces to be too matchy-matchy, more of a coordinating piece that could be worn on its own.
4. How you’d like to see Ruffled Runway grow.
Ruffled Runway has experienced lots of changes over the last few years and I continue to grow and expand with my target market. This includes staying with more children’s ready-to-wear, although I missed the sparkly party dresses just a bit and will be showing a collection on the runway in New York City in September. I am working on increasing mass production which will help expand local and online sales. But for now, I am working on building my fashion dream, one stitch at a time.
