Let World-Herald film critic Bob Fischbach catch you up to speed with two new flicks in the theater.
Man of Steel (PG-13) “The Dark Knight” writers Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer give this Superman reboot a darker feel. Clark Kent is a bearded drifter with identity issues. Henry Cavill grounds the character in humanity, but the special-effects battles drag on a bit. Co-stars Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon. Intense violence. 3 stars.
Before Midnight (R) Eighteen years after they met on a train to Vienna in “Before Sunrise,” Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) are a couple struggling with kids, jobs and the grind of a long-term relationship. A talky relationship sequel with insightful dialogue, strong acting and picturesque locations (Greece this time). Partial nudity, frank sexual talk. 3 stars.
