Let World-Herald film critic Bob Fischbach catch you up to speed with a new flick in the theater.
Iron Man 3 (PG-13) Director Shane Black’s sequel fits in the middle of the comic-book genre, neither great nor a bust. Robert Downey Jr. is terrific in the title role, and Ben Kingsley makes an inspired bin Laden-wannabe. Digital effects are swell, too. What’s missing is emotional resonance, a reason to care. Intense violence. 2.5 stars.
To the Wonder (R) As with “The Tree of Life,” director Terrence Malick creates a moody meditation on God, love and loneliness. Little dialogue or character development, but the cinematography is breathtaking. Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko and Rachel McAdams are unhappy lovers, Javier Bardem a sad priest. Profanity, bit of nudity. 2.5 stars.
