I’ve been patiently awaiting Oscar season for months.
As I mentioned in a former blog, the Oscars are what get me through the dismal early part of a new year.
This year I was “lucky” enough to be experiencing some still-present pregnancy sickness the entire day Sunday. The upside was that I spent literally the entire day on the couch, in front of E! and CBS watching pre-, during and post-Oscar coverage.
Early in the afternoon, Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osborne and Kimora Lee Simmons dished on nominees, their movies and their anticipated wardrobes. Several times, the hosts dropped designer names that the stars had purportedly decided to wear.
Later, E!’s Ryan Seacrest joined them on the famous Red Carpet to talk to the arriving stars about preparation for the night and their hopes for a win. While his mission was not to report the fashion aspect, I have to say that he looked pretty darn good in a Burberry tuxedo that was seemingly like a second skin. For that fact, I gave him the men’s “Best Dressed” award for the night.
Sadly, many of the stars chose underwhelming gowns that left me longing for Oscars nights past. While it was good to see some color in a sea of black and white, many starlets chose pastels that didn’t translate well on television. They appeared dull and colorless instead. See for yourself:

I thought they all looked stunning, and the fit of Charlize Theron’s dress and her flawless skin had me overlooking the color. But all in all, I prefer bolder color when it comes to Red Carpet dressing.
While I wasn’t particularly fond of the simplicity of Jen Aniston’s dress or the too-muchy-muchy bow cascade on Jennifer Garner’s dress, I loved siren Reece in her royal blue gown and the irridescent pailettes and bright pink combination on Kerry Washington’s gown.

However, my absolute favorites were those gowns done in metallics. Attendee-only, Stacy Keibler, took top prize in my book because the back of her dress was nothing short of gorgeous. Stacy was followed closely by Naomi Watts in her uniquely stunning, asymmetrical gown. But Sandra Bullock also looked elegant in this peek-a-boo black and silver beaded gown.

I just had to show the back of Stacy’s dress – my absolute favorite!

Another one of my favorites was Adele. I love that she always dresses her plus-size figure well and that her hair and makeup are absolutely flawless every time we see her.
But who are we kidding? With that voice, who cares if you’re in a couture gown or a paper bag?

In a nutshell, I have to say that I was far more impressed with the talent than the fashion. Oh well, there’s always next year!
