Amy Grace: Maternity Fashion: What I wore

I’ve rustled up most of the items I’ve been wearing lately. Check them out.

Chris Donnelly: My son is the LeBron James of selective hearing

He’s a best-in-class parental ignorer, and it’s infuriating.

Jill Koegel: Not on a diet? Then it’s not cheating

“Cheating” is for diets. And I’m not a fan of diets.

Danielle Herzog: Kansas City Triathlon: Race day jitters and uncertainty

My husband and brother-in-law trained the past 14 weeks for it.

Tracie McPherson: The greedy American way: Buy, buy, buy

Maybe the cure is to ask yourself: “Do you need it or want it?” Who am I kidding, that didn’t work for me.

Now with kids, I’m breaking every single promise to myself.

Josie Loza: Win Omaha Mom Prom tickets
Josie Loza Omaha World-Herald

The Omaha Mom Prom is just days away and tickets are selling fast.

What is Mom Prom, you ask?

Clearly, you need a mom to clue you in. It’s a charity gala organized by a team of local moms. A night of glitz and glam for mommy dearest. A must-be-seen event that’s sure to sell out.

Moms — 400 of them — will dress to the nines, mingle, wine, dine and dance in their most chic gowns or old high school prom dresses on March 16 at the Omaha Marriott. Most importantly, no tantrum-throwing toddlers or bickering kids will be in sight — hopefully for miles.

This is the one spot Moms can get quality “me” time. No guilt allowed. It’s all for a good cause.

All proceeds from this year’s Mom Prom will benefit the Nebraska SIDS Foundation, a helping agency for families.

“Since we’re a group of moms all with young children it hit homes with us,” said Jessica Hudson, one of the event’s coordinators. “If there was one charity where we could see them do more research that is definitely one of them.”

Check out photo booth snapshots from last year’s mom prom.

  1. Betsy Westphal:

I would like to go the mom prom because I have never been able to go. As a newly single mom I would love to have a night away with other moms to just have a good time and dance and sing along with the music in a killer dress. :)
  2. Robyn Gibilisco:

    Too cool
  3. Charity Long:

I never went to prom growing up. I'd love a reason to buy an outrageous and impractical dress!
  4. Felicia AppleofHiseye Hepburn:

I would love to go to this! I've never heard of it and it seems like a time to have fun. As a single mom, we sometimes need even more of a break because of our double hats we wear. I am also a sports mom and help coach my daughters track team at OCA. Even if I don't get picked, it would be awesome if you would consider a single mom who struggles and yet persevered like me! Thanks!! :)
  5. Samantha Falor Dull:

I'd love to go! I have one of my best friends coming in town from Lawrence, KS this weekend. We've been friends for over 20 years and I'd love to have a girls night out with her!!
  6. Jenny Schroeder Dizona:

I would love to go to mom prom because being a mother of 4 kids aging from 19yrs old this month and left home for first time to join the USMC to 7yr old this month I always do everything for my kids never myself I have even already BORROWED a dress to wear I would love to make this a yearly event for MYSELF and to support the great charities you choose.Thank you
  7. Megan Kelly Rayer:

I want to go for a variety of reasons. We moved here my senior year of high school and I really didn't know anybody so I didn't go to my prom. I've always kind of wished I had. I've also struggled with my weight most of my life. I've never been able to wear the cute, pretty prom dresses. I have now lost 74 pounds and CAN wear the fun dresses, and I'm dying for a reason to get one!! Choose me for the Mom Prom!! :)
  8. Chelsea Masterson:

Mom Prom sounds amazing. I would love a night out. I just moved to Omaha about 9 weeks ago. My fiance works for a company that relocated us here. We had our own business where we were and lost it due to the poor economy in our old town. So there have not been any "nights out" in a long time. I have three boys 8 yr old twins and a 7 yr old. They are my everything! I am currently working two jobs to catch up, but just knowing that it's all for my AMAZING family makes it so easy! I am the happiest luckiest girl in the world to have my life. Four of the best men in the world live with me, but hey every mom needs a little time.
  9. Effie Cockell:

I would like to go to the mom prom Its for a good cause! and fun to dress up too.
