The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Council Bluffs Parks & Recreation Department will host youth fishing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. If ice conditions are favorable, 1,000 rainbow trout will be stocked Friday into Big Lake, 2600 N. Eighth St. in Council Bluffs.
Six to seven inches of good, clear ice is required to support group activities. Anything less than that will postpone the trout stocking and youth event until favorable conditions return.
Registration will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with trout fishing starting at 9. Kids younger than 16 and fishing with a properly licensed adult (fishing license and trout fee) do not need a trout fee to fish for or possess trout, but together their daily limit is five trout.
A fishing license and trout fee can be obtained from any local hunting and fishing license sales agent or at iowadnr.gov.
