See “Sweet Land” at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This is the first film in the 2013 “Year of the Homesteader” Film Festival series.

Set in the 1920s, “Sweet Land” tells the story of a young German woman who travels to rural Minnesota to meet the man promised to be her husband.

All films in this year’s festival feature stories of homesteading families. There is no cost or ticket needed to attend.

The remaining films, all at 2 p.m., are:

» “The Plow That Broke the Plains,” Jan. 19-20.

» “Days of Heaven,” Jan. 26-27.

» “Solomon Butcher: Frontier Photographer,” Feb. 2-3.

» “Sun River Homestead,” Feb. 9-10.

» “Keepers of the Land,” Feb. 16-17.

» “A Pioneer Family in Alaska,” Feb. 23-24.

Homestead National Monument is near Beatrice, Neb.
