“Cheating” is for diets. And I’m not a fan of diets.

Tracie McPherson: The greedy American way: Buy, buy, buy

Maybe the cure is to ask yourself: “Do you need it or want it?” Who am I kidding, that didn’t work for me.

Danielle Herzog: I Won Blogger Idol!
Danielle Herzog Omaha World-Herald

For the past three months I have been participating in a writing contest called Blogger Idol.

The competition began with 168 bloggers and eventually down to one final winner. After weeks of writing from prompts, getting judged by a panel of writers, and then having to beg family, friends and ex-boyfriends to vote, I can finally say – “I WON!” I’m 2012’s Blogger Idol!

Thank you to my Momaha family for voting for me each week and helping me move ahead in the competition.  The judges’ scores and votes combined decided who was eliminated each week and there were many times where voting is what saved me.

This competition was incredibly unique because it challenged me to write outside my comfort zone. For Momaha and my personal blog, Martinis and Minivans, I write mostly about topics surrounding parenthood and children. However, for this competition, we were given prompts to write about controversial issues, a day in our lives if we were superheroes, and even how our day would be like if we were the opposite gender. Each week was harder than the previous one and after 11 long and challenging weeks, it is amazing to finally bring home the title

Here are some of my favorite posts from the competition.

It Was Time To Choose Me – a post about the difficult decision to end a marriage.

Someday You’ll Ride A Bull – a letter to my younger, more self-absorbed self

Getting Your Zombie To Commit – probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever written and I loved every second of it.

The “N” Word – we had to get on our soapbox and talk about an issue we felt strongly about. I was terrified to talk about this, but felt it was incredibly important.

Thank you again for all your support – if I could buy each of you a round of martinis I would!
