The kids are officially on winter vacation from school. Now what?
The City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department announced upcoming activities to keep them busy during their winter break.
Adams Park Community Center, for example, will host a Christmas Extravaganza starting Monday through Dec. 31 and Jan. 2 – 7  from noon to 4 p.m. An ice skating outing will be on Dec. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $3, transportation included.
- A.V. Sorensen Community Center Holiday Break Activities on Monday through Jan. 7 from noon to 4 p.m. A Dodgeball Tournament will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 27.
- Camelot Community Center will hold Late Night Basketball on Dec. 27 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. for 10- to 17-year-olds, Basketball Mania on Jan. 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for 1- through 5th grades.
- Common Ground Community Center will hold its Annual Winter Open House on Jan. 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with lots of fun activities and discounts on membership fees. Learn to Swim Registration starts Jan. 2nd for Common Ground members and Jan. 7 for non-members.
- Florence Community Center will offer cookie decorating on Dec. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for ages 12 and younger and Winter Break Schools Out activities Jan. 2 through 4 form 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Senior Activity Center will sponsor a Holiday Lights Tour on Dec. 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Mockingbird Hills Community Center will offer a Winter Break Day Camp on Dec. 26 through 28 from 8:30 a.m.to 3 p.m. gym and swimming activities are planned.
- Montclair Community Center will hold Holiday Break Day Camps on Dec. 27, 28, 31 and Jan. 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gym and swimming activities are planned. Ice skating is planned for Dec. 31. There will also be special Holiday Open Swim from Dec. 26 through Jan. 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Pipal Park Community Center will offer free New Year’s Day ice skating on Dec. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. Transportation will be provided.
- Saddlebrook Community Center will offer School’s Out activities on Dec. 27, 28, Jan. 2,3,4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will including baking, Minute To Win It and total sports day.
- Motto Mclean Ice Arena will hold a Holiday Skate on Dec. 29th from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Omaha Parks and Recreation encourages people to keep active by providing open/drop-in gym, weight room/fitness areas at our Community Centers. Supervised after school youth programs are offered Monday through Friday between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at many of the facilities.
