A mom named her baby “Hashtag.”

Twitter fans can now rejoice that the popular social media platform has reached everyone, influencing the very young to the very old.

If you’re not familiar, Twitter is social media site — similar to microblogging — where users share short messages — 140 characters or less — called tweets.

Baby Hashtag is named after Twitter’s message tagging function. A hashtag is a group of words or phrase used to describe the essence of a tweet. Hashtags help readers follow a string of conversations about the same topic. They are marked with the pound symbol, contain no spaces and are often displayed at the end of a tweet, like this #awesomeexample.

#Overboard, #Weird, #Crazy pretty much sum up what I feel about the mom’s naming convention. But I will give her this, she found a way to virally share a birth announcement better than anyone else I know. People were shocked and humored by the mom’s innocent wish to cement her love of social media into her child’s life.

We’ve all gone through trends. I recall moments in my life when I thought everything revolved around things I found amazing.

Thank heavens I never imposed my obsessions onto my children via their birth certificates. If I had, the Woodard clan might now include kids with the following names:

#Aquanet

#GetInShapeGirl

#DirtyDancing

#Leggings

#PopRocks

#Crimper

#SNL

#90210

#Homecoming

#Gaga

#InstantMessaging

#Karaoke

#Facebook

What about you? If you had to name your child after one of your favorite trends, what would that be?
