Looped ribbon wreaths are one way Shari Hofmann of Kearney, Neb., uses her creativity — and she said it helps her pass the time while watching TV.
The former schoolteacher saw the wreath craft online and enjoys picking out the complimentary ribbon colors and envisioning different combinations. With a few tweaks, you can go from a holiday-centric wreath to one raising awareness for a great cause.
Materials
45 yards of ribbon (nine-inch-wide rolls, 15 feet each) *You can use more or less depending on the circle size and how full you would like the wreath to be. Choose complimentary colors for varying patterns.
10-inch or 12-inch Styrofoam circle
Stick pins
Hot glue
Hot glue gun
Directions
Cut each roll of ribbon into 4½-inch pieces. Hot glue each piece into loops.
To ensure even spacing, pin one ribbon pattern to the circle at a time. Run a stick pin through each loop, and push the pin all the way into the Styrofoam circle. Continue, one pattern at a time.
You can embellish if you wish with glitter, bows, rhinestones, etc.
You can also paint a lightweight wooden letter (“N” for the Huskers or the first letter of a last name) and add glitter for sparkle. Place a few drops of hot glue on the back, adhering the letter to the wreath.
The wreath will hang directly on any nail, or you can make an additional loop, pinning it to the wreath, and hang it by the loop.
