Josie Loza: 3 new films in the theater
Josie Loza Omaha World-Herald

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA

Hotel Transylvania (PG) Adam Sandler is fun voicing Dracula in this second-tier animated movie, suited to kids more than adults. Excellent animation, fun action scenes, all-star voice work (Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez) but a so-so script about teen rebellion and overprotective dads. 3 stars.

PITCH PERFECT

Pitch Perfect (PG-13) The “Glee” concept graduates to a college campus, where Anna Kendrick competes in an a cappella choir that needs an update. Kendrick can sing, and several supporting players are dirty-minded but funny, including Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins. Predictable, not credible. Lots of crude sexual humor. 2.5 stars.

LOOPER

Looper (R) This sci-fi action thriller stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as an executioner for the mob. Faced with killing a future version of himself (Bruce Willis) sent by time machine, he falters. Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels are spot-on in supporting roles in this surprise-twist violent tale with a human heart. Brutal, not for younger teens. 3.5 stars.
