Sara Alexander: 7 must-have pieces of junk
Sara Alexander Omaha World-Herald

Junkstock founder Sara Alexander of the Junque Factory shared her list of the Top 7 items you don’t want to pass on.

1. Vintage Turkish olive baskets
A hot item in the vintage world right now. Alexander said people are making them into lights or using them as a bin for towels or toys.

2. Locker baskets
Alexander said they’re getting harder to find, but they’re great for all kinds of storage, shelving displays, or in kids’ rooms and offices.

3. Vintage suitcases
Vintage store owners can’t find these as easy as they used to. People are stacking them to make end tables or to display in a room.

4. Harvest table/farmhouse tables
We’re talking authentic tables, folks!

5. Sign letters
Alexander said these are great to decorate children’s rooms by displaying kid’s names on the wall or to display elsewhere around your home.

6. Galvanized metal/zinc
We love anything galvanized or zinc, from old wash tubs to zinc-topped tables. Don’t pass on cool or rusted metal because they provide great decorating opportunities. Here’s a tip: Use Krud Kutter to treat or clean metal pieces. It’s a product you can find at your local hardware store in the paint section.

7. Farm, industrial, and cottage chic furniture
Look for unique pieces that speak to you. It’s fun to mix and match industrial items with farm finds.

Sara Alexander, wife and mother of two and self-professed junk queen, owns Junque’ Factory with two locations in the Omaha metro. Alexander organized Omaha’s first junk festival, Junkstock that is slated for this weekend at an old west Omaha dairy farm.
