Prints are an important fashion trend this this year, and the fall collections are no exception. Designers, shop windows and fashionistas alike are showing and wearing bold prints with other prints.
While big-name designers may get away with pairing all sorts of prints on the catwalk, we “real” women may need to follow guidelines to fit this trend into our everyday wardrobe.
How can you pair prints successfully without looking like a tourist?
1. Pair prints in the same color(s) or color families. (Blues and greens, reds and pinks, yellows and oranges.)
2. Make sure prints are balanced in proportion, and you are not making your prints compete.
3. Stick to the same fabrics and/or textures, and make sure the style you are trying to convey is consistent.
4. Tone down bold prints with neutral accessories or outerware.
Mixing prints with prints can be a really fun way to use items in your existing wardrobe in a new way. It’s also a great way to express some individuality in the way you dress.
When done right, you’ll look well put together instead of well… mixed up.
