Josie Loza: Former Husker to host a free football clinic
Josie Loza Omaha World-Herald

My children are still too young, but this might interest a few of you.

Former Husker and NFL Green Bay Packer Steve Warren will have a free football camp today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Central High School, near 20th and Dodge Streets.

High school student-athletes will get to learn from former Huskers and NFL players, such as Zack Bowman, Joel Makovica, Tony Veland, Jamel Williams, Jay Foreman, Marlon Lucky and Eric Warfield.

In 2010, Warren Academy was founded as an athletic-based training program designed to inspire student-athletes and help improve their performance through various football camps and clinics for those in the Omaha metro area and western Iowa.

The camps caters to three skill levels — fundamental, competitive and advanced. All levels focus on speed, agility, strength and conditioning.

What separates the Warren Academy from other camps, Warren said in a recent telephone interview is that his camps are run by an experienced staff of certified trainers, nutritionist, educations and coaches. All of the professionals have either been apart of the National Football League, won NCAA National Championships or a Super Bowl Championship.

“I’ve never been to a camp or clinic that’s had this much experience at one location,” he said.

The free clinic is open to high school students. Those interested can register online at www.warrenacademy.com or at today’s event as early as 4:30 p.m. Walk-ups are welcome.

Other Warren Academy clinics include: A coaching clinic at 6:30 p.m. July 9 at the Millard Athletics Association and a two-day football camp July 10 and 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Anderson Park.
